The goal feels like the natural next step. In practice it often consumes materials, time, and attention that would have produced faster real progress if spent elsewhere. What the Goal Usually Crowds Out

When a large midgame project becomes the primary focus, several higher-leverage activities tend to be deferred:

  • Tightening the core resource loops so that materials arrive with less travel and less variance.

  • Resolving the specific crafting or processing bottleneck that is already visible in storage and queue times.

  • Improving mobility or logistics so that existing nodes and outposts become more usable.

  4. If the project is interrupted or abandoned halfway, how much of the investment remains useful?

Targeted readiness: Preparing the specific food, gear, and information needed for the next real progression gate or necessary threat, rather than a general “get stronger” program.

These alternatives are rarely finished in a single dramatic session. Their value appears in the reduced time and risk of everything that follows.

Large builds remain possible; they simply wait until the foundation can support them without constant interruption.

Build what keeps you alive first. In midgame that still means clearing the limits that actually slow you down, not the ones that merely look ready to be cleared.
